New Frontiers

The people we remember are often just the first to explore somewhere. For example, how many people can you name who've gone to the moon? With artists as well, the most famous aren't always the best, but the first ones to get a thing they're doing right.

If your goal is to make a name for yourself, keep your eyes open for new frontiers. If nothing else, you're going to have an audience of people eager to see what this new thing is all about. Here are some places that have yet to be thoroughly explored.

Virtual Reality:

VR is, in my opinion, one of the newest and most exciting places for an artist. There are so many things that could be done with this new technology, and many people are buying in and hungry to see what it can do. Who is going to make the first great 360-degree movie? Or animation? Or sculpture? It's a platform where you can virtually bring your audience into your imagination.

3D Printing:

There are already many possibilities that couldn't be done before 3D printing. And the technology is only getting better, while the price is dropping. Consider incorporating it into your work. The following video, they take someone's voice and make it into a tie fighter.

Twitch Creative:

You're already creating. Why not stream video of yourself to the internet and potentially make a little money at it? Twitch is a website for video game streaming, but last year they opened a new creative channel where artists can stream themselves working. You get some revenue from the ads, and it will help promote your work. Check it out.
